Wipe sudsy water on the counter with a soft cloth or sponge. Scrub gently and wipe soapy solution off with a clean. But while it is a durable material cleaning it can be a little tricky if you don t use the right products. Don t use abrasive cleaner or pads either because marble can be scratched.

But first you should remove any large crusty hard water build up using a plastic scraper to get the bulk of it off. If not using marble cleaner mix a squirt of gentle non abrasive dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle and spray the counter generously. A secret in knowing how to clean marble countertops. For daily cleaning you just need some dishwashing soap and warm water to keep the marble clean. For most organic food stains the marble institute recommends cleaning with a solution of 12 hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia. Acidic and abrasive cleansers are a big no no for marble counters because they can scratch and stain the surface. It s easiest to clean the hard water stains and or soap scum if you spray on and let sit for 5 10 minutes and then scrub with a soft bristle brush or nylon pad.

You can either use regular marble cleaner or try removing the stain using grade 0000 steel wool. This will remove dirt but won t heal any etching or stains. Repeat the process until completely clean.
